We're trying out a new science book that just hit the market and having fun making slime!!

Recently I was contacted by Storey Publishing to ask if I would like to review their new book, Mason Jar Science. I love messy, fun science experiments, and I have racks of mason jars, so I said yes. They sent me a review copy and we got to work checking it out recently and are loving it! Of course, my son overlooked all the experiments except the slime. It HAD to be the slime that we did first. Other experiments I noticed and were excited about included making alum geodes, terrariums, cloud in a jar, play clay, and several more. If you have kids youRead More →

The Advent Calendar that wasn't, and how I was suckered by my 10 year old.

Several weeks ago I got the idea of making an advent calendar. I wanted to make mini mittens and hang them on a line. I decided not to crochet them though because I wanted my son to help, so I opted to use felt. Cut to shape, sew, hang. I was going to share the pattern and directions here with you. I bought a stack of felt. I mentally prepped my idea. I asked my son about 20 times if he was ready to make it. I ordered a case of 20 Hot Wheels cars to put in it. Crochet Hot Mat made from a 1964 pattern- My Workbasket

You guys, what happened to November?!?!?!?!!? Seriously. I know it’s December (omg!) but I DID do a project from the November issue and never got a chance to show you. I actually made this a few months ago, which makes it that much worse that I’m showing it to you late. The November issue featured this Hot Mat set that I thought was just SO fun, funky, and adorable, and I got straight to making them. Well, I got straight to trying to make them. Slight problem though, I could NOT get it to work. So I sent the pattern to my mom and askedRead More →

A website for vintage crafts, vintage find, vintage fun, crafts, tutorials, chatter and more! My Workbasket

I am so behind on this page and my projects for this page. It’s awful. I promise you I’m around, I’m alive, and I’m working. For the last week? Two weeks? Three weeks? I don’t even know anymore, I have not been to sleep before 2 am. I am SO tired ya’ll. Yesterday I spent the entire day on the couch, looking at old craft magazines and trying to take a nap. I was so tired my legs hurt. No nap was to be had. Then I fell asleep watching a movie with my son at 9:30 and my body finally had the nap itRead More →

Every week I discuss what I'm working on how it's going and what I'm up to. --My Workbasket

It’s May 28th I have had the best day! Earlier I took my son and two friends to a local school and randomly bumped into a local guy who is a Guinness World Record holder! He is on for something bike related and put on quite a show for us when I asked if that was him. The new book comes out in August and I have a feeling we’ll be buying it and then carrying it around hoping for another encounter and a chance to get an autograph! It was really cool. My family also went out and visited a local comic book store,Read More →

In the April 1949 issue there was an adorable little egg cozy, just basic crochet with instructions to make a rooster or a bunny. I was very excited because we eat insane amounts of eggs. My son and I will often has 2-3 soft boiled eggs for breakfast. Having cute bunnies and roosters would be a nice pick me up at the breakfast table. I got right to work and made one. First you build the basic base: Then you add the details like bunny ears or rooster parts. So I did. Went for the bunny first. And Now For the Fail: And then IRead More →

Do you ever start a project, or a meal, and from start to finish it is just cursed? Just every little thing that can go wrong does, and what should be quick and/or easy take forever or is very hands on. That happened to me Sunday night while cooking dinner. I started a full 30 minutes earlier than usual but every single thing went wrong. I somehow was behind, things that should have been in the oven by six didn’t get there until 6:15 or even 6:30. Things broke. Things leaked. Things went missing. It was just cursed from beginning to end. My roasted chickenRead More →
