Hello all! Welcome to My Workbasket! Today’s project is a mini folder with a sloth theme for the Crafter’s Cafe Challenge Design Team. The image was provided for me free, as a design team member by Beccy’s Place. If you know me at all you’ll know that if a sloth is an option, that is what I will pick, and that is exactly what happened. I used the sloth image from the “South of the Border” digital stamp set to make this mini folder. The challenge theme this time was “male” and I decided to go with a grungy style.
Making the Folio
To make the folder itself you take a 12×12 sheet of paper (Mine is a piece of double-sided paper from Spellbinders from their Celebration paper pack. Which is no longer available) You fold the paper in half at the six in mark on one side, and then 4″ on the perpendicular side. Fold that 4″ flap up, cut a slit on that 6″ mark to help it fold neater, and you have a mini folio! Just glue the flaps down as desired. I usually glue the outside edge and leave the inside edge open) On this particular folder, I also curved all my edges with a corner rounder.
Decorating the Sloth Folder
On the front cover of my folio, I distressed with some gesso, then applied some grungey textured stamps in multiple ink colors. I also stamped some leaves in green. I printed the sloth with the “Relax… nothing is under control” sentiment across its belly, and colored it in with alcohol markers. Then, I trimmed around it and also stamped the grungy stamps on it as well plus a tiny bit of gesso rubbed on. For additional texture and layers, I cut some triangles of black cardstock and secured them under the sloth, rolling up the tips, and rubbed some gesso on the triangles also. Additional green triangles of a coordinating paper (from the same discontinued paper pack) added some more layers and color, then I left the inside of my folder plain and un-distressed.
I hope you enjoy this project and it inspires you in some way! The Crafter’s Cafe Challenge is a fun craft challenge on the 1st and 15th of each month and you can enter too for a chance to win prizes and blog badges! The rest of the design team will have fun inspiring projects as well, so be sure to visit!
